WHO
TEENAGERS & THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE THEM

When I started out in this field, the majority of my clients were children ages 3-12.  I used to feel a little scared of the teenagers!  As my oldest daughter grew, and I got closer to having one of my own, I realized how great they really are. Now, I cherish the opportunity to work with teenage clients.

WHAT
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING  FAMILY THERAPY

The first step is to set up a parent consultation.  We will address your concerns and any questions you may have.  This is an opportunity for you to decide if I am the best fit for your teen and your family.  If so, then we will customize a plan that works with your schedules.  Communication is key.  Even if your teen is participating in individual counseling, we will meet for a family session or a follow-up parent consultation at least once a month.

WHY
BECAUSE WE ALL NEED HELP SOMETIMES

Although my unique specialization is with younger children and Play Therapy, I have found that incorporating and modifying interactive things like art, mindfulness exercises and animal assisted therapy into my sessions with tweens and teens has been good for them and for me.  Having something to do while we visit helps break the ice and create a more comfortable setting.

Teenagers often express stress, anxiety, sadness, or frustration in ways that may not always be easy to understand. They may become withdrawn, irritable, overwhelmed, or unsure how to talk about what they are experiencing.

Therapy gives teens a safe and supportive space to better understand their emotions, build healthy coping skills, and talk through challenges without judgment or pressure.

Whether they are navigating school stress, family changes, friendships, identity, anxiety, or depression, teen therapy can help them feel more supported, confident, and connected as they move forward.

What is Teen Therapy?

Teen therapy provides a safe and supportive space for adolescents to talk about their thoughts, emotions, and challenges. During the teen years, young people may face stress related to school, friendships, family changes, identity, anxiety, depression, or self-esteem.

In a comfortable and non-judgmental environment, teens can explore what they are feeling and learn healthy ways to cope. A therapist helps guide conversations, build emotional awareness, and support better communication with parents, caregivers, and others in their life.

Teen therapy is not about forcing a teen to talk. It is about creating trust, understanding, and support so they feel heard, respected, and more confident in managing life’s challenges.

How Teen Therapy Helps:

  • Reduce anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm

  • Support healthy coping skills and emotional regulation

  • Improve communication with family and peers

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Help with school, social, and life transitions

  • Provide support for depression, sadness, or withdrawal

  • Create a safe space to feel heard and understood

By offering compassionate guidance and support, teen therapy helps adolescents better understand themselves, strengthen resilience, and move forward with greater confidence.
